There are many points of interest to be discovered along the Rhine and Erft rivers!
Rhine-Erft County is one of Germany’s top regions rich in water castles, and the two UNESCO World Heritage sites of Augustusburg Castle and Falkenlust Castle are particularly imposing examples! There is also a multi-facetted landscape of museums, with the spectrum covering everything from the early ages to modern times.
The highlight is the Max Ernst Museum in Brühl, and also the Keramion Foundation – the Center for Historical and Modern Ceramics in Frechen. The Lignite Experience – this is the motto for the year-round exhibit at Paffendorf Castle in Bergheim. Afterwards you may observe the gigantic wheel-blade excavators in the expansive surface mining pits from the visitor’s platforms.
