On Paffendorf Castle you will hear some background information on the origin and exploitation of Rhenish lignite.

The next stop is the viewing platform at Hambach to see the gigantic blade wheel excavators. You will also receive information on recultivation measures, and you’ll be acquainted with towns which must be relocated (due to the advancing surface mining
operations), and also some newly relocated ones to experience the difference.
